How do you out a negative before a number

If you mean 'out' as in remove, you can always multiply the number by -1 providing it is a negative number in the first place.

$${\mathtt{\,-\,}}\left({\mathtt{5}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}\left(-{\mathtt{1}}\right)\right) = {\mathtt{5}}$$
