(x - 1) (x - 1) (x - 1)    multiplying the first two terms, we have

         x - 1

         x - 1

        ------

       -x + 1

x^2 - x

------------

x^2 - 2x + 1       multilplying this by the third term, we have

           x^2 - 2x + 1

                     x -  1

        -----------------

          -x^2 + 2x -1

x^3  -2x^2  + x

-----------------------

x^3 - 3x^2 + 3x - 1
