If u have $25.65 in dimes and quarters, and you have 20 more quarters than dimes, how many dimes do you have?

0.25(x + 20) + 0.10x = 25.65

or

(0.25x + 20) + 0.10x = 25.65?

If u have $25.65 in dimes and quarters, and you have 20 more quarters than dimes, how many dimes do you have?

Let the number of dimes=D

Then number of quarters=D+20

.10D + .25(D + 20) =25.65

.10D + .25D + 5     =25.65

.35D =25.65 - 5 =20.65 divide both sides by .35

D =20.65 / .35

D=59 dimes

59 + 20 =79 quarters, so that:

[59 x .10] + [79 x .25]=$25.65
