Is mean or median better for a large set of data?

If the set of data has one or more outliers that drastically affects the value of the average, using the median is the better description of the average.

As the set gets larger the mean and the median converge to the same value.

There are some statistical tests that require that you use the mean.

So, my answer is -- "It depends."
