Jeff is counting his small change and finds that he has collected $44.50. He has one-seventh as many quarters as dimes, 0.3 times as many loonies as dimes, and one-tenth as many toonies as dimes.

If we consider the number of dimes a variable X

44.50 = (1/7x * 0.25) + (0.3x * 1) + (1/10x * 2) + (x * 0.10)

44.50 = 1/28x + 3/10x + 1/5x + 1/10x

44.50 / (1/28 + 3/10 + 1/5 + /10) = x = 70

number of dimes = 70

Number of quarters = 1/7 * 70 = 10

Number of loonies = 3/10 * 70 = 21

Number of toonies = 1/10 * 70 = 7
