How would you write the second half of this word problem on a calculator? "The new van was bought for $24000. It decreased in value by 20% in the first year. if its value at the end of the second year was $1612, by which percentage did its value decrease during the second year?" The first answer is $19200, thank you very much.

$24,000 - 20%=$19,200 its value after the 1st.year, which is a 20% depreciation.

$19,200 - $1,612=$17,588-The amount it depreciated by at the end of 2nd year. It, therefore depreciated in the second year by: 1 - ($1,612/$19,200)=91.60%. The van, however, depreciated by a whopping:1 - ($1,612/$24,000)=93.28% over the 2-year period. The average, per year, compound depreciation over the two years is=74.08%.
