Mrs.Y observed the dimensions of a room and she was assigned by her teacher to draw a sketch of the room. She drew a drawing of the room on a piece of paper having the length and width of the room to be 12cm and 8cm respectively. Next day, when she showed her work to her teacher, she asked for the actual dimensions of the room. She replied instantly 81m x 54m. What was the scale that she had chosen?

81m x 54m = 8100cm x 5400cm

 

$${\frac{{\mathtt{8\,100}}}{{\mathtt{12}}}} = {\mathtt{675}}$$

 

$${\frac{{\mathtt{5\,400}}}{{\mathtt{8}}}} = {\mathtt{675}}$$

 

so the scale is  1:675
