To find the better deal, find the lower cost per pound by dividing the cost by the number of pounds.

Ms. Slugh:  $8.54 ÷ 2 lb  =  $4.27 per pound.

Ms. Strang:  $12.78 ÷ 3 lb  =  $4.23 per pound.

The better deal:  Ms. Strang.
