A seamstress has a piece of cloth that 3 yards long. She cuts it into shorter lengths of 16 inches each. How many of the shorter pieces are there?

 

1 yard=3 feet X 12 inches=36 inches, so 3 yards,

3 X 36=108 inches, therefore,

108/16=6 3/4 number of shorter pieces.
