Let's say Width = x

then Lenght = 2x

Perimeter is equal to all sides added together  width + length + width + lenght    or

x + 2x + x + 2x = perimeter   (which the problem says is 10)

so

x + 2x + x + 2x = 10      Simplifying:

6x = 10

x = 10/6  = 1 4/6 = 1 2/3 ft  = width      Length = 2x = 3 1/3

Here’s another way

Call the long side X and the short side Y.

The parameter is

2X + 2Y = P

Also

Y=0.5X

So

2X + 2(0.5x) =10

3X = 10

X=3+1/3

Long side is 3+1/3  feet

Short side is 1+2/3 feet

Check

(2*(1+2/3))+2(3+1/3) =10 Feet
