(2x^3-10x^2+x-5)/(x-5)   factor the numerator by grouping

[(2x^2)(x - 5) + 1(x -5)] / (x - 5)  =

[ (2x^2 + 1) (x - 5) ]  / (x - 5)  =     "cancel" the (x - 5)  in numerator and denominator

2x^2  + 1

It can be written like this:

(2 x^3-10 x^2+x-5)/(x-5)

x = i/sqrt(2)  and  x = -i/sqrt(2)
