All of the members of our spray-painting team paint at the same speed. If 20 team members can paint a 4800 square foot wall in 36 minutes, then how many minutes would it take for 9 team members to paint a 3600 square foot wall?

so write like this:

20 people -> 4800 @36min

9 people   -> 3600

now we have to find efficiency of each person

20*36min*efficiency = 4800

efficiency = 6.66667

therefore, 9 people * 6.6667 * time = 3600

time = 60 minutes

Easy peazy

Hi there...

Great answer.

Personally, if I posted an answer to this I would do the calculation based in "seconds"  first and then finish it off by dividing by 60 to get "minutes", but it would yield the same results.

Kind regards

20 team members paint a 4800 square wall in 36 minutes.

How fast can one team member paint?

20 * 36 = 720 minutes

One team member can paint a 4800 square wall in 720 minutes.

How fast can one team member paint a square wall of 3600 square feet?

720 * (3600/4800) = 540 minutes

Now how fast would it take 9 team members?

540 / 9 = 60 minutes.

Which matches KIson!
