I had to skip a trimester of math and my teacher is still having me do the final on the first 5 chapters I don't even know of, one of the questions is... Find the zero(s) of g(x)=x(squared) -3x-40. Will you also put the steps on how you solved it? Thank you.

x^2 - 3x - 40   = 0     factor this as

 

(x - 8) ( x + 5)   = 0

 

Set each factor to 0

 

x  - 8    =  0                               or              x + 5   = 0

 

add 8 to both sides                                    subtract 5 from both sides

 

x  = 8                                 or                     x  =   -5

 

And those are the two solutions  [values that make  g(x)  = 0  ]
