Someone please help. Learning geometric sequences. n represents a term in a geometric sequence.

How does one go from this 

a(n)= 1/2 • 4n-1 To : a (n)= 1/8 • 4n

Do you divide or what do you do. I figured diving by 4 would work but I’m not sure. Should I always divide to get rid of this -1.

If I try dividing in this example it does not work. a (n)= 56 • 1/2n-1 To a (n) = 112 • 1/2n

How do you go from one equation to the other in both of these equations.
