Solve the following system:
{y = 4 x |     (equation 1)
y = x+12 |     (equation 2)
Express the system in standard form:
{-(4 x)+y = 0 |     (equation 1)
-x+y = 12 |     (equation 2)
Subtract 1/4 × (equation 1) from equation 2:
{-(4 x)+y = 0 |     (equation 1)
0 x+(3 y)/4 = 12 |     (equation 2)
Multiply equation 2 by 4/3:
{-(4 x)+y = 0 |     (equation 1)
0 x+y = 16 |     (equation 2)
Subtract equation 2 from equation 1:
{-(4 x)+0 y = -16 |     (equation 1)
0 x+y = 16 |     (equation 2)
Divide equation 1 by -4:
{x+0 y = 4 |     (equation 1)
0 x+y = 16 |     (equation 2)
Collect results:
Answer: | x = 4       and         y = 16

Thanks , guest......here's a slightly faster manner.......just set the y's equal.......   and we have

4x = x + 12     subtract x from both sides

3x = 12           divide both sides by 3

x = 4

And using y = 4x   then y = 4(4)  = 16

cool cool cool
