So I'm going to 9 lessons and carols a little later today. There are really 12 lessons and carols anyone know why.

Yes. It is based on the 12 disciples and the 12 days of Christmas. There are choices of readings but the 12 lessons take more time so 9 lessons is the most popular since 1880. But some will do 12.

Weird question but is it snowing for anyone? I've never seen snow except for in pics it is 92 degrees here.
