You can do this formally if you want.

x+y=7

xy=12

Then solve simultaneously.

But this one is really easy.

If the 2 numbers mult to a positive then they both must be neg or both positive.

They add to a positive so they both must be positive.

3 and 4 is the obvious answer.  :)

the difference between these two is 4-3=1
