Geometry/Trig question: So, I'm having trouble with a sample problem in my math book. I understand MOST of what's going on, but near the end, there's a line that reads "cos B = -0.45089" which is fine and dandy but then the very next line says "therefore, B ≈ 116.80°." Frankly, I don't get how they figured that out. I mean, maybe I missed something earlier in geometry? How does cosine of B turn into measure of B? Thanks for any help!

Cos b = -0.45089

arc (cos b) = arc cos -.45089

b = 116.8 degrees                                  arc cos and cos inverse or cos^-1 are all the same thing

'b' is just an angle measure      cos (angle ) = -.45089       what is angle????

cos^1(-.45089) = 116.8 DEGREES
