what do distributive property mean

Roughly speaking, it means that we are multiplying some term outside a set of parentheses or brackets times each of the terms inside those parentheses or brackets....for example :

6 ( 3 + 2)  =  6 * 3   +  6 * 2   =  18 + 12   =  30
