y=mx+b

b= y intercept

m=slope or it can also be written as \(\frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}\)

x= is the x intercept

Let me explain in depth.

y = mx + b

m is your slope. That is the steepness of your line. It is expressed as rise over run, which means the number of spaces to the right over the number of spaces up.

Ex.

The slope of the points (0, 0) and (1, 2) would be 2.

x is your x-coordinate. It is where is point is on across the x-axis.

b is your y-intercept, or "starting point." This is where x is equal to 0.

Ex. A y-intercept of 8 would mean (0, 8) is a point on your line.

y is your y-coordinate. It is what the formula equals, and is also where the point is on the y-axis.

Hope this helped!

P.S. I wouldn't say you were dumb for not understanding a concept right away! However, I hope this explanation keeps you from being "the dumb kid in class." cheeky
