Alright, so we have:

5/2x + 1/4x = 9/4 + x

First lets change 5/2x to 10/4x to be able to add it to 1/4x, now we have:

10/4x+1/4x=9/4 + x

11/4x=9/4+x        

Now subtract x (or 4/4x) from both sides

7/4x=9/4

Multiply both sides by 4

7x=9 /4 *4

Simplify the right side

7x=9

Divide both sides by 7

x = 9/7

5/2(9/7) + 1/4(9/7) = 9/4 + (9/7)
