the (1,1), (8,1) and (5.5) are the (x,y) coordinates of the vertices.

Area of a triangle is (base*height) divided by two or 0.5*b*h

Length of the base \(\sqrt{(8-1)^2+(1-1)^2}\)

Length of base is 7

Height = 5-1 = 4

Area = (4*7)/2 = 14

I will let the 3 vertices be A(1, 1), B(8, 1) and C(5, 5)

I will let AB be the base of the triangle.

AB = 8 - 1 = 7

The height of the triangle = 5 - 1 = 4

Area = 7 x 4 / 2 = 14
