I'd like to point out that if the square root is writen into the question then only the positive answer counts.

But if you put it there as a part of your  solution it can be pos or neg

for example 

$$\sqrt4=2$$

but if

$$x^2=4\quad then\\\\
x=\pm \sqrt4\\\\
x=\pm2$$

√1 = 1

 

1*1 = 1, so this works!

 

The number one is interesting in this way because if you keep multiplying or dividing one by one, you will keep getting one.

This means something like

999√1 = 1
