when coming up with questions like (nx)^4+m(xy)^2+(ky)^4, and i wish to factor it with x and y as x^2 y^2, do i have to first calculate n^4 and k^4,

when coming up with questions like (nx)^4+m(xy)^2+(ky)^4, and i wish to factor it with x and y as x^2 y^2, do i have to first calculate n^4 and k^4, or have them as n^2 k^2?
