y = -5x -18    (1)
3x + 5y = -2   (2)

 

Sub (1) into (2)

 

3x + 5[-5x - 18 ] = - 2

 

3x - 25x - 90  = - 2

 

-22x =  88  

 

x = 88/-22 =   -4

 

And using  (1)  we have

 

y = -5[(-4) -18] =  20 - 18  = 2
