I used to not have problems with this, but summer happened.

I know the solutions, I just don't understand what i'm doing wrong.

Heres what I did:

-5+1*3-(7-23)

-5+1*3-(7-8)

-5+1*3-(-1)

-5+3-(-1)

-2-(1)

-3

(Actual solution is -1)

Next Problem:

(8-2)2+1/4[4-3(6-10)]

6^2+0.25[1(-4)]

36+0.25(-4)

36+(-1)

35

(Actual solution is 40)

Notice in the first one, Thehumancalculator   that :

-5+3-(-1)  =

-5 + 3 + 1  =

-5 + 4  =

-1

Next one ;

(8-2)2+1/4[4-3(6-10)]  =

6^2  + (1/4)[ 4 - 3(-4)] =

6^2 + (1/4)[4 + 12]

6^2 + (1/4)[16] =

6^2 + 4  =

36 + 4  =

40

[Hey......I know all about that Summer thing....it used to happen to me, too !!...LOL!!!]
