Ok, thanks! I get what it is now. I saw you composing an answer and all of a sudden it stopped. I had a feeling you either went AFK or there was a glitch.

The first one says square all the terms, then add them up.

the second one is the other way around.

Add up all the terms and square the answer.

for example

 \(\displaystyle{\sum_i^3}x_i^2=1^2+2^2+3^2=1+4+9=14\\~\\ \left(\displaystyle{\sum_i^3}x_i \right)^2=(1+2+3)^2=6^2=36\)

I just wrote a post explaining it and now it has disappeared.  

But what you have said is correct.

1. Area of a square: l*h=168

l=x-6

h=6x

(x-6)(6x)=168

\(6x^2-36x=168\)

Solve the quadratic and you got your answer.

(x-6)(6x) = 168

6x^2 - 36x - 168 = 0

x^2 - 6x - 28 = 0

x = (6+sqrt148)/2

 = 3 + sqrt148/2 

 = 9.08

ABCD is a square of side length 1, and M and N are the midpoints of sides AB and CD, respectively.  AM and DC intersect at P.  Find the area of triangle APM.

Find the turning point (vertex) 

It occurs where \(\frac{-b}{2a}\) = \(\frac{-(-4)}{2(-9)}\)= \(\frac{4}{-18}=\frac{2}{-9}\). 

Since \(x=\) \(0\) is to the left of \(x = 1\) the larger interval is \((-\infty,\frac{2}{-9})\)

(Not sure if this is the correct answer, but it's what I got.)

A = pi r ( r + sqrt(r^2 + h^2) )       r = 3    h = 4

    sub those in to get    A = 24 pi

I,m adding this to my post:

The Median Theorem states that the medians of a triangle intersect at a point called the centroid that is two-thirds of the distance from the vertices to the midpoint of the opposite sides.

The domain is (-1,inf).

The domain is (-2,2).

Notice that the three medians appear to pass through the same point! Let's test this out with a specific triangle. Consider one specific triangle ABC with A = (3,6), B = (-5,-8), and C = (14,11). Do the three medians of this triangle pass through the same point? If so, what point?

I'll let you find the coordinates of the centroid. Have fun.
