What are you talking about? About the calculator? No, but the answer will first come out as an improper fraction, and then you would have to simplify it to make it into a mixed number.

Here's a couple of examples......

Suppose we have the numbers 1,2,5  and 10....a proportional relationship using these numbers is....

1 / 2  =  5 /10  ....  we have something called "cross- product equality" in a proportion.....note that, taking the "cross-products"  .....  1 x 10   = 2 x 5  .......this relationship always holds in a proportion  !!!

We can also have a proportion just using three numbers, say, 1, 2 and 4

1/2 = 2 /4     and again......the cross-products are equal  

Lastly, one of the most famous proportions in math deals with something called the Golden Ratio...it deals wth the method of dividing a line such that.....

[length of the longer segment] / [length of the shorter segment] = [total length of the line] / [length of the longer segment]  .......when this is done correctly, the fractions on both sides equal a number known as Phi....and the reciprocals of the fractions equal a number known as "little Phi" or just "phi"   !!!

You multiply fractions by whole numbers by turning the whole numbers into a fraction. and then you multiply the two fractions.

There are 4 simple steps to multiply fractions by whole numbers

1. Change the whole number into a fraction by making the denominator a 1 and by making the whole number into the denominator.

2. Multiply the top numbers (the numerators).

3. Multiply the bottom numbers (the denominators).

Equating slopes, we have

[2 - 0] / [16 - (-6) ] = [2 - f(2)] / [16 - 2]     simplify

2 / 22 = [2 - f(2)] / 14        simplify

1 /11 = [2 - f(2)] / 14      cross-multiply

14 = 11 [ 2 - f(2)]     simplify again

14 = 22 - 11f(2)       subtract 22 from each side

-8 = - 11f(2)       divide both sides by - 11

8/11 = f(2)

Since  x / x = 1, if you have a string of multiplications in the numerator and a string of multiplications in the denominator, you can cancel one factor in the numerator with an equal factor in the denominator.

(3x^5) / (5x^7)     =     (3·x·x·x·x·x) / (5·x·x·x·x·x·x·x)

The five x-factors in the numerator will cancel five x-factors in the denominator; so the answer reduces to:

     =  (3) / (5·x·x)     =     3 / (5x²)

(This can be done, in division, more simply by subtacting the exponents (7 minus 5) and since the greater number of x's is in the denominator, the value of x² is in the denominator.
