When you have a quadratic EQUATION in the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0 you can substitute the 'a' 'b' and 'c' into the Quadratic FORMULA to find the values of 'x' that satify the equation.
Lets use the subtraction method
Set it up like an addition problem
3x+2y=12
5x-2y=4
-------------
8x=16
x=2
Substitute 2 back into either of the two equations
3(2)+2y=12
6+2y=12
2y=6
y=3
OR
5(2)-2y=4
10-2y=4
-2y=-6
Same either way
X=2
Y=3
