142.5% of 20

% means out of 100  it even has a one and 2 zero!   and of means  multiply so if I convert this to maths speak I get

142.5/100*20

Hi Eloise,

A shopkeeper buys an arcticle which costs him $28 and he sells it at a profit of 25%. How much does he sell it for?

There are 2 ways to do this.

------------

You can either find 25% of $28           that's   25/100*28

and then add it to the original $28

OR

You can recognise that $28 is 100%  You want to increase this by 25%  SO

You want   125%  of    $28                that is     125/100*28
