Yup, that's what I got too.

3x-2y=11            ---Subtract 3x from both sides

-2y = -3x + 11            ---Multiply everything by a negative

-(-2y) = -(-3x) + (-11)

2y = 3x - 11                     ---Divide everything by 2

y = 3/2x - 11/2

I would probably leave the answer with the -11/2, but -11/2 and -5.5 are the same thing, so your answer would be right too.

First distribute the 6 into the 7x+18, and the 4 into the x+8, and then solve for x.

6(7x+18)=(x+8)4

(6*7x) + (6*18) = (x*4) + (4*8)

42x + 108 = 4x + 32

42x + 108 = 4x + 32

       - 108           -108

-------------------------------

42x = 4x - 76

-4x     -4x

-------------------------

38x = -76                       ---Divide both sides by 38

38/38x = -76/38

x = -76/38

x = -2

$$\frac{S}{3} -4 = 2$$

Add 4 to both sides to get rid of the -4 on the left side:

$$\frac{S}{3}=6$$

Multiply both sides by 3 to get rid of the /3 of the left side:

$$S = 6\times 3$$

$$S = 18$$

If you dividing two numbers with exponets, and these numbers have the same base, (which is 4 here) you can subtract the exponets.

So, worked out, we have:

$$4^{30} \div 4^6$$

$$4^{30-6}$$

$$\mathbf{4^{24}}$$

I would say "iii) always smaller"

Say you had 9 and you divided that number by 6 (a number bigger than 1)

You would get 1.5, which is smaller than 9.

Say you had a number bigger than 9 though, like 100,000. You still get a number smaller than 9, because you get 0.00009.

I would argue any other number that you divide 9 by would be smaller than 9.

Well, 1190 is divisible by a couple things.

1190 is divisible by 119 and 10.

1190 is also divisible by 17 and 70.

This looks like the quadratic formula if I've ever seen one. :)

I'm thinking this is what you mean:

$$\sqrt{(-10)^2 -4(1)(26)$$

$$\sqrt{100-(4)(26)$$

$$\sqrt{100-104}$$

$$\sqrt{-4}$$

We can't take the square root of a negative number, it doesn't make any sence! What we do then is break this down into √-1 x √4, and we just express √-1 as i. "i" stands for imaginary number. We just call √-1 "imaginary."

$$\sqrt{-1}\times\sqrt{4}$$

$$i \times \sqrt{4}$$

The square root of 4 is 2:

$$i \times 2$$

Which we write as:

$$2i$$

There you go! you answer is 2i.

Scientific notation is usefull for when your dealing with really, really, big or small numbers.

Say you we're dealing with something like the number of hydrogen atoms in the sun.

There is thought that is is aproximatly 1.19 x 10⁵⁷ hydrogen atoms in the sun.

Say, hypothetically that you knew there was 1.1 x 10^-2 grams of mass in each hydrogen atom.

What is the mass of the sun?

Well, it is much easier to solve this question with scientific notation.

Of coarce, with many things in math, you will probably not directly apply alot of the things you learn to your given field of work, but it's still good things to learn.
