So we can get through everyday problems.  Imagine what it would be like without math.  We wouldn't have jobs, money, anything!  Math is important, although you might not know it.

I'm assuming we have

25^x-3=125^4-x     Equating bases, we have

(5²)^x-3 = (5³)^4-x    and, by  a property of exponents, we have

5^2x-6 = 5^12-3x       and, equating exponents, we have

2x - 6 = 12 - 3x     add 6, 3x to both sides

5x = 18      divide both sides by 5

x = 18 / 5

This looks like the equation of a line......so we have

y - 4 = 2x      add 4 to both sides

y = 2x + 4

So I assume you have.......

12√2√3 ???   We can just multiply the roots giving .... 12√6

Okay.  I thought I was reading wrong.  Or my mind played tricks on me.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but shouldn't you add the two percentages together?  14+35%=49%=.49

272/.49=555(rounded)

Am I wrong about that?

Just take everything to the 3/2 power....so we have

[x^(2/3)]^(3/2) = 4^(3/2)

         x              = (4^3)(1/2)  = 64^(1/2) = √64 = 8

Ax + By = C

Slope = A/B

11x + 2y = C

11*-4 + 2*(-4) = C

y=mx+b

y+x^2+b Plug the no.s in, ex. 10, 20

20 = 10^2+b

20 = 100 + b

-100 -100

-80 = b

First,l let's assume that we have 1/4 and 3/5

And adding them together , we have.....

[ 5 + 12 ] / 20 = 17/20 = .85

And since $272 is 85% of his monthly budget..then his montly budget =

272/.85 = $320

Now, let's suppose that 14 and 35 represent percentages

Then their total is 49% = .49

And the total budget is just 272/.49 = $555.10

Happy7 is correct....it can't be dollars......

Substituting:  Bus + 5·Bus + 2·Bus  =  16

Simplifying:                         8·Bus  =  16

Dividing by 8:                         Bus  =  2

Train  =  5·Bus  =  5·2  =  10

Taxi    =  2·Bus  =  2·2  =  4

It has to be percentage.  Note the question says the total cost for food and gasoline was $272.  14+35 doesn't equal 272, does it?  Good effort Anonymous,  but by the way the question is written,  I don't see how you could be correct.  No offense.

The reason for the discrepancy is that happy7 assumed that the 14 and 35 referred to percenages while anonymous assumed that they were dollars. Since the question wasn't clear what the 14 and 35 were, each one is correct for its assumption.
