Perhaps anon wanted to know how to put a fraction into the calc or perhaps onto the forum.

It is hard to know what they really wanted.

If you're supposed to show that (11^-4)^-6 = 11; it doesn't.

If you're supposed to find the exponent on 11 to make it true:  since you have an exponent to an exponent, multiply the exponents together:  -4 x -6  =  24.       11^24 is the simplified expression.

N = 7·L·H

2310  =  7·30·H

2310  =  210·H                      (now, divide both sides by 210)

2310 ÷ 210  =  11

H = 11 feet

Pi is a number most commonly used with circles.  The value of pi is infinite but can be summazied by 3.1415926535 (or 3.14).  Pi is used to calculate the circumference of circles (pi times diameter) and the area of a circle (pi times radius squared).

The 'r' stands for the length of the radius of the circle.

If you are to simplify this by multiplying out, use FOIL -- First, Outside, Inside, Last ---

(7x - 4)(2x - 5)

=  (7x)(2x) + (7x)(-5) + (-4)(2x) + (-4)(-5)

=  14x² - 35x - 8x + 20

=  14x² - 43x + 20

This can be calculated by using a fraction:

Count the number of letters in the word (in this case, 9) and create the numerator by the factorial of that number.

Since there are 9 letters in the word COMMITTEE, the numerator is  9!

Count the number of times each different letter is used and create the numerator by multiplying together the factorials of those numbers.  OK, that description may be clear as mud, so here's an example:

For COMMITTEE, the C is used once:  1!, the O is used once: 1!, the M is used twice: 2!, the I is used once: 1!, the T is used twice: 2!, and the E is used twice: 2!.

Putting these together, the denominator is  1!·1!·2!·1!·2!·2!  

So the answer is:  9! / [ 1!·1!·2!·1!·2!·2!  ]  =  45360

(A couple things about the denominator:  you really don't need to write down all the 1!, because their values are 1, but if you do, the sum of the numbers used in the denominator is equal to the number of letters in the word.)

Another example:  MISSISSIPPI  =  11! / [ 1!·4!·4!·2! ]

To make a negative, just hit the - symbol....for example (-1)

Its value is 2.718281728459... and will be found on scientific and graphing calculators.

The problem 8.681277e + 33 means to use that key, multiply that value times 8.81277 and then add 33.

However, if the problem is 8.681277e^(+33), then use the e key, take it to the 33rd power and then multiply that answer by 8.681277.

Since both 8 and 256 are multiples of 2, by playing with exponents on 2, I got:

          2^3 = 8     and     2^8 = 256

So now,    8^?  =  256     becomes     (2³)^?  =  2^8

When you are raising an exponent to an exponent, multiply the exponents together, so now we have:

         2^(3·?)  =  2^8

This becomes:  3·?  =  8        --->   ?  =  8/3
