you meant
10 to the power of negative three = 10^(-3) This is scientific notation

What you wrote was not scientific notation BUT what you meant was scientific notation.

Maybe you mean 1.7e^13

e is an irrational number like pi so it cannot be written exactly in numbers but, e is approximately equal to 2.718281828 (which is approx 2.718)

So 1.7e^13 is approx = 1.7*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718*2.718 (there are 13 e's here.)

=aprox 752,102.8

In a mixed fraction, it'd look like: 42 1/20
The improper fraction would be 841/20.

I'll do both
2+2and 4/5 = 2+2+4/5 = 4+4/5 or (4 and 4/5)

2+2*(4/5) = 2+ 8/5 = 2+ 1+3/5 = 3 and 3/5

first you add the denominators then the numerators. simplify if needed. if different denominators then multiply until they are the same. multiply the top and bottom denominator. i'm kinda a nerd .

Well first you have to simplify each term individually then put them all together. In my explanation I'm going to assume you already have a general idea of how simplifying complex roots works. If that's not the case you might want to look into that first and then come back to this. So right off the bat we know that 2*root2 cannot be simplified since 2 does not have any square factors, 3*root20 on the other hand can be simplified since 20 is 4*5 and 4 is a square number.

3*root20 3*root(4*5) 3(2*root5) 6*root5

Then we look at the next term root45. This can also be simplified since 45 can also be expressed as 9*5 and 9 is 3². So,

root45 root(9*5) 3*root5

And last but not least we look at root288. Now if your sharp you can just realize that 288 is 144*2 and 144 is 12². Unfortunately I'm not that good so I just did it gradually. You can just start with the smallest square number you know that you think might be a factor, factor it out then square it to bring it out of the root and then just keep simplifying until you can't simplify anymore. Since 288 has 4 as a factor we can start there.

root288 root(4*72) 2*root72 2*root(4*18) 2(2*root18) 4*root18 4*root(9*2) 4(3*root2) 12*root2

Now going back to the original expression we just replace each root with it's simplified form.

2*root2+3*root20-root45-root288 2*root2+6*root5-3*root5-12*root2

Then just combine like terms.

2*root2+6*root5-3*root5-12*root2 2*root2+3*root5-12*root2 3*root5-10*root2

and that would be the simplified form of that expression. Hope that helps and that it wasn't too long

If I have 60 individuals that can potentially have 2 children each ...and the offsprings would continue to have 2 children for 8 generations ...how many decendents would I have today ?

I genuinely thought it was a riddle.
I will re-phrase the question to what I now think that you meant.

60 individuals have 2 children each and each of their descendants have 2 children each. How many descendents will be in the 8th generation.

First generation = 60
second gen = 120
third gen = 240
4th = 480
5th = 960
6th = 1920
7th = 3840
8th = 7680

This is an example of a geometric progression (GP for short)
The number of people in the nth generations (sometimes called T _n or a _n = a*r ^(n-1)

where 'a' is the original number of people and r is the common ratio which is the multiplying factor needed.
In this case a = 60 and r= 2 and you want T ₈
T ₈ = 60 * 2 ^(8-1)= 60 * 2 ⁷ = 60 * 127 = 7680

This is a second response from the other site
It is looking at an extension to the idea. I found it really interesting.

I guess if we want to add 1 + 1 , we could do it ,

We start off adding the column of two 9's next to the decimal point , that gives 1.8 , then add the next column of 9's , that gives 0.18 , then add the next column of 9's , that gives 0.018 , putting it all together we can see ,

0.99999 ...
+ 0.99999 ...

1.8
0.18
0.018
0.0018
+ 0.00018
_________________
1.99998

So far , just add straight down each column , no need for a 'carry' , extend this ad infinitem to get the answer which is 2.
