BUT, how did you know that it didn't have a finite decimal representation.? (How did you know that the numbers didn't come to an end)

Rom said that if you can write a number as a fraction then it has to be a rational number.
AND
All rational numbers can be written either as a terminating (ending) decimal or as a recurring (repeating) decimal.

Think about this different equation
a * b = 0
What are the possible answers ?
You are multiplying 2 things and the answer is 0.
This will only happen if a or b or both are equal to 0.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same is true for you equation.
If (5x-8) * (4x+3) = 0 then either

5x-8 = 0 OR 4x+3=0
5x = 8 4x = -3

x = 8/5 = 1 and 3/5 or x = -3/4

I am not sure what you mean either, but,

If you are looking for a side length you would use sin

If you are trying to find an angle then you use sin ^-1

To op: ie. ORIGINAL POSTER. Try to define your question with words and what you are trying to resolve through asking it. Nobody can read your mind, even if the question in and of itself seems to be explanatory. This is the basics to get the best help possible from the volunteers here.

If you're playing games on the other hand, or making some kind or remarks to your self because you though it wouldn't be answered, or that it's fun to see how one would respond to a brief and common case in maths, then it's been achieved and one would hope in the future you consider maths and the time of those dedicating themselves to the site worth more.

Atm, the forum is knew and establishing. Therefore, if you have serious questions (they'l always be answered which is the goal of the site.)
Try putting the sum/problem with words so the helpers can get an idea.

I assume you do not know how to do basic math, otherwise what are you doing posing a math question you already know the answer to? Anyway, to get to the answer take the two numbers, 2 and 2 and add them together and when you do that you get 4. The answer is 4. Hope this answers your question.
