First, find 10% of 5570. Once you find it, find 1 % of 5570. With the 1% of 5570, divide it by 4. Now you have 1/4% of 5570. Now with the amount equal to 1/4% of 5570, multiply that number by 3. This will give you 3/4% of 5570. Now add the amounts of the 10% and 3/4% to get 10 3/4%. That is it.

chewychewy:
can anyone give me a brief explanation on dividing algebraic expressions?

Hi chewychewy,
You can do long division or you can use synthetic division.
Synthetic division is a short cut I guess.

If one side of a hexagon is 5xy+10z , what is the perimeter?

in general having the length of 1 side of a hexagon tells you nothing about the perimeter

if you mean a regular hexagon, where all the sides are the same length, then the perimeter is just 6 times the length of a side.

what is the ph of a 8.5810^-4 M solution of HBr?

chem isn't my strong subject but since HBr is very soluble in water I guess you assume that you have its molar mass in hydrogen ions

and so the pH is

pH = -log(8.58*10 ^-4) =

-log(8.58*10^(-4))=

1/2(1.5*10^(5))*(18)^2

1.5*10 ⁵ = 150000

1/2*150000 = 75000

18 ² = 324

324 * 75000 = 24300000 = 2.43 * 10 ⁷

so you are correct. The book isn't always right. Usually but not always.

If you refresh the pages on a question make it so it doesnt count as an extra view that would crush my hopes a bit less

Impossible
Unless some are negative numbers, but then there could be many answers.

I don't know if you understand English or not. I'm afraid I don't speak Russian.

The translation of your question is "what is a module number"?

What I think you're asking is what does (mod N) mean.

If I have some number X mod N this refers to the remainder resulting from X/N

for example if N=10

12 mod 10 = 2

because 12 = 2*10 + 2

similarly

2343243256243262343243 mod 10 is 3

so if K = X mod N

X = m*N + K where m is a (usually positive) integer

mathcalc:
Paul has 2/3 as many postcards as Shawn. The number of postcards Shawn has is 3/5 of the number of postcards Tim has. If the three boys have 280 postcards altogether, how many post card s does Tim have than Paul?

Please no algebra! I haven't learned it yet.

You must be one of Jyoti's friends. I see that you have signed up. Welcome to web2.0calc.com
You are supposed to do this using a Singapore Math Bar Model Method.

Let Paul have two equal sized boxes and go from there. you will put Shawn's boxes next to Pauls. How many boxes will that be? Last of all you put Tim's boxes.
Once you have worked out how many boxes you need altogether then you can work out how many postcards is in each box.
Then you can work out how many post cards that Tim and Paul have.

Try to do it yourself. You can post again and tell me how far you got.

Class A folds 160 fewer paper cranes than class B and 2/3 as many paper cranes as Class C. Class B folds 92 more paper cranes than class C. How many cranes does class B fold?

Need a method, not an answer. No Algebra!

That was interesting. Thanks Jyoti. It did take me a long time to draw though.
Will you join up now?
If you need me to explain it some more, just ask.

Its our township school. But its good school. Its called Singapore Math Bar Model method. From last 2-3 years they change math curriculum in our schools. They adopted Singapore math so we can do well in math & teaching us new techniques.

Hello everyone,
There were great answers today from Drumbeat, Yue, Rom, Princess Sophie E, Kitty<3, and a Guest. Thank you.
Demogorgon gave many answers to the 1994 puzzle. Thank you, I always like people to get involved.
Drumbeat, Hayden, and Demogorgon all became members either today or in the last couple of days.
Welcome to web2.0calc forum. We hope that you enjoy your time with us.

I have drafted a letter to Andre Massau, creator of Web2.0calc.com
It is a fairly long comprehensive letter. I have not sent it because I want to give you all an opportunity to suggest anything that I may not have thought of. I think I will leave a post on the forum that you can add to if you wish, or, if you would prefer you can send me a private message.

Thankyou ILS, I finally found the pi symbol.
Goodnight all,
Melody.
