I'll go through my method of solving this....

First......find the radius of the circle 

500  = pi*r^2

500/pi = r^2

r = sqrt(500/pi)

Now....we have have 8 triangles, and the area of each is given by :

500pi / [2sqrt(2)]    (1)

Multiply  (1)  by 8   and you have your answer
