Landry.....these look to be Venn Diagrams

As an example for the second one :

The yellow part could be interpreted as all the citizens of Chicago

The blue part could be interpreted as all the citizens of Illinois

And the green part could be interpreted as all the citizens of the US

Thus....the yellow is a subset of the blue.....and both of these are subsets of the green

There are four ways to do this.

1). On a calculator, enter the fractoin as a division problem. ex- if you have ¼ you enter 1÷4.

2). On a calculator, enter the fraction in fraction format (¼) and press the fraction-decimal button (f>d)

3). Long divide

4). Memorize fractions

[ x^(1/3)  - a^(1/3)]  / [ x - a ]  ........factor the denominator as a difference of cubes......assuming that x and a are both positive

[ x^1/3  - a^1/3] / [ (x^(1/3) - a^(1/3))(x^(2/3) + (ax)^1/3 + a^(2/3)) ]  =

1 / [ x^(2/3) + (ax)^1/3 + a^(2/3) ]

Whether or not this is more "simple" is debatablle.......

So 30/70 =42.9=43% that is correct!

There is a ratio of 24 pears to 50 total fruits (24:50) a.k.a (12:25), whereas there is only a 18:50, or 9:25 ratio for bananas. The probability of him choosing a pear is 48%(24/50) rather than a banana'sprobability is only 36%(18/50)

The combined rates  = 377.2

And the total distance to cover = 252.5 miles   .......so.....

Distance / Rate   = Total Time for the trip in hours .....    and we have

252.5 / 377.2  = about .668 hrs

And in minutes this is about   .668 x 60   =  40 minutes

And....since they have already traveled 8 minutes, they have 32 more to travel .........so  they will meet at 10:40..........as Landry found
