Alex used half of them, so apparrently alex decided he was going to cut one melon in half to use for target practice. You CAN have half a melon, you know.

Besides, where does it say to estimate?

It is correct:

|-3|= 3

so -|-3| = -3.

-3 + 3 = 0

y must be a negative number because one of the addends is more than the sum.

y = -3.5

2 * (-3.5) + 36 = 29

2 * (-3.5) = (-7)

(-7) + 36 = 29

(It can also be done like this: (+)36 - 7 = 29)
