Look at this simplified example

the number in A is  10+3=13

The number in B is 15+3=18

The number in both is 3

Then number altogether is  13+18-3 = 28

I had to subtract 3 because it had been added in twice :)

0 = 6 - 3x - 7  add 3x to both sides

3x = 6 - 7

3x = -1 divide both sides by 3

x = -1/3

Let's convert liters to cubic centimeters

1 L =   1000 cubic centimeters  = 1000cc

The vo,ume of the 1 marble  = .04 L  X      1000cc / 1 L  =   40 cc

So the volume of tank =  the volume of the  50 marbles plus the 33L of water =

[50 x 40cc] +  33 [ 1000cc]  =  35000cc

If he has 20L of water, then he has 20000cc of water

So.....the number of marbles required to fill the remainder of the tank =

Remaining volume to be filled / volume of each marble  =

[ 35000 - 20000] cc / 40cc   =

15000 / 40  =

375 marbles  .......just as the guest found !!!

Your question, as stated, doesn't make sense!!. There is a BIG difference between buying 5 items each at a specific discount, versus buying 1,000 items each at a specific discount to calculate their total discount.

You would be correct if the interest rate was compounded annually. Since all the periods are the same once you adjust time from years to months the interest rate is effective. The Captchas are getting stronger with stealth. They have disguised a kite as a blimp. I may not last much longer.

The payment of $442 is a MONTHLY payment. The interest rate is 3% compounded MONTHLY. Therefore, the interest rate =0.03/12 =0.0025 PER MONTH. The way you have written your equation, your interest rate is 3% PER MONTH!!, or 3% x 12 =36% Annual rate compounded MONTHLY!!. Can't you see it??.
