Note that, when we multiply or divide by a negative in an inequality, we must reverse the direction of the inequality sign ......!!!!.......so we have......
5x + 1 < -24 subtract 1 from both sides
5x < -25 divide by 5 on both sides
x < -5
For a percent increase we have.....
[Greater number - Lesser Number] / [Lesser Number]
For a percent decrease, we have......
[Greater number - Lesser Number] / [Greater Number]
This IS a seemingly confusing situation.......here's a page that may help explain Honga's answer.....

Thanks so much for answering Honga.
In my notes though, my professor told us that infinity divided by infinity is indeterminant. Are there exception to when it can be divided and the answer will be 1?
Sorry for asking further into this on here. My professor isn't a very approachable guy...
Thank you Melody :) I am glad I am as well
Well, I am very glad that you are back Rose
log2x + logx2 = log 16 using a property of logs on the left hand side
log(2x*x2) = log (16 ) so....equating the expressions in the parentheses, we have
2x3 = 16 divide both sides by 2
x3 = 8 take the cube root of both sides
x = 2

This old thread should be very helpful. Have a look through it, I think you will be able to work it out from this.
Take a look and if you still need help just add another post here and I (or some one else) will help you.
Did you start this one?
It is noble to make a truce!
What do you mean, it is there - what would you want it for anyway?
You mean the old wrap lantern don't you?
Ok. Well, it's the math formula.
The easiest way to find the answer is to divide the answer, like Alan said, but you may think his answer is confusing, so that's why I am stating this.
That is so awesome that you made me put all of the smileys!
We all hope that you don't fail!
Can I download the book from here ??
