Thats a way to think about it, but its not a special triangle so that wouldnt work. (I dont think at least). Ive tried spliting the triangle into 2 smaller ones then using 30-60-90 triangles to solve for the height but idk if that will work.

Assume that one of the perimeters as your base such as (sqrt 10, sqrt 20 sqrt 30) now using the height formula (on google) calculate the height, multiple the base, and height divide it by 2 is your answer. 

You can ask whatever academic thing you want.   It won't necessarily be answered.

I would just suggest that for some things google would quicker and maybe more reliable.

I assume you are cutting the rectangular prism into smaller triangular prisms.

the block of chese does not have a height of half an inch so what do you mean when you say BOTH prisms have a height of 0.5 inches.

If just the triangular prismas have a height of 0.5inch then you can cut 

3*2*6 *2  wedges = 72 wedges.
