Time consuming:  Not really.  Think about the symmetry.  The off-axis ones are simply all the positive and negative combinations of 1/2 and √3/2.  The on-axis ones are simply, 1, -1, i and -i.

As for proving there are exactly n roots to an n'th order polynomial, you'll have to go to Carl Friedrich Gauss (I think he was the first) for this!

How do you fold this into a square pyramid?  Even when the triangles are folded flat the combined distance of two of them is only 6 inches, so even when flat thay don't span a 10 inch base!

Chris just told me by message that he has not heard of pavlova before.

This is one of our most common desert treats in Australia.  

I asked my son one time what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday and he said "just a normal one mum."

On interrigation it came to light that he meant a pavlova.  LOL

I will admit it is my favourite too.  

Only I don't put passionfruit on mine.  Not my favourite fruit i am afraid.

I cannot get that pavlova to centre - they always are difficult to get right LOL   

OK...we can actually do it without substitution, but.....anyway

Let x be the number of dimes  and y be the number of quarters

So

x + y  = 60      or    y = 60- x

And the number of dimes times their value plus the number of quarters times their value = $9.45  ....or...in equation form...

.10x + .25y = 9.45     and substituting for y, we have

.10x + .25(60  - x)  = 9.45    multiply by 100 to clear the decimals

10x + 25(60-x) = 945    simplify

10x + 1500 - 25x  = 945

-15x + 1500 = 945   subtract 1500 from both sides

-15x  = -555   divide both sides by -15

x = 37   and that's the number of dimes

And (60 - 37) = 23 and that's the number of quarters

I am thinking

You could just do present value of an ordinary annuity

where 

n=8-1=7

i=0.02

amount = 1300

And then when you get your present value just add $1300 onto it.

This is because that 1300 went into the bank and then was withdrawn immediately. so it can just be tacked on at the end of the problem. 

This is a present value of an annuity due question.

Do you have a list of formulas to choose from?

i=2%=0.02

n=2*4=8 quarters

money paid quarterly = 1300

Jlara.......look at the bar that has the 20 on the bottom left and the 25 on the bottom right.....how high is that bar???   4!!! This means that 4 cars get between 20-25 miles per gallon ....and this '4" is the "frequency" for the cars in this 20-25 range

Look at the next bar that represents 25-30 miles per gallon...how high is it??  2!! This means there are 2 cars that get between 25-30 miles per gallon.  And this '2" is the frequency for the 25-30 range

So far, 4 + 2 = 6

Now, just look at the remaining bars to the right (there are three of them) and their heights....add these heights to our total of 6 and that will be the answer....
