just replay your history in mind and you'll know the answer!

First take out the LCM of the two denominator then 

$$\frac{12}{14}+\frac{4}{6}$$

Now we shall take out the LCM that is 42

now see that how many times does 42 come in both the denominators then multiply the same number you got witht their numberator like

$$=\frac{12*3}{14*3}+\frac{4*7}{6*7}$$

now after multiplying each of them.....you can simply add the fractions with common denominators!

Simplistically, it means that as one side of an equation increases/decreases, the other side moves in the same direction.....a good example is the conversion of the Centigrade scale to the Fahrenheit scale, thusly:

F = (9/5) C  + 32

Note, as  "C" increases/decreases, "F"  exhibits the same behavior.....

Yes that makes sense Chris.  It is very unusual to use addition rather than multiplication.

But it does make sense in this instance.

Notice that the first man has 32 choices, and the second man has 31 choices, and the 3rd man has 30 choices, etc.  By the time we get to the 26th man, he has 7 choices, thusly...

32  + 31 + 30+....+ 7

So, the number of choices  just equals the sum of the digits from 7 to 32....or, put another way...the sum of the first 32 digits  less the sum of the first 6 digits  =

I stumbbled  upon some really interesting maths clips today.  You might like to take a look.  

x is the number of hours of exercise.

y is the predicted % body fat.

y=26-0.7x

a. What is the estimate for the intercept?       

When there is no exercise  -0.7x=-0.7*0=0     SO the y intercept is  26   (26 % body fat)

b. What is the estimate for the slope of the regression line?        That is the number in front of the x    -0.7

c. What is the variable for x?       Hours of exercise

d. Find the predicted percent body fat for a student in the population who excerises 6 hours per week.

Substitute in x=6 and find y

e. Find the residual for a student in a population who exercises 6 hours per week and has a 15% body fat.

Don't know what this means.
