As an  addendum to geno's explanation.....suppose we don't want to choose any books from the shelf.....in other words...C(5,0)

The "formula" is

5! / [(5 - 0)! * 0!] = [5!/ (5! *  0!)]  = [1 / 0! ]

Well.....there 's only one way not to choose any books from the shelf.....don't take any of them!!!

Thus......the 0! in the "formula" MUST = 1  for this to "work"

there is an invisable point at the end of any whole number.

you have to jump it over the 4 the 9 the 9 and the 6  SO that it ends up between the 7 and the 6.    That is 4 jumps.   So the power is 4

This might be displayed on a calc as     7.6994E4

A proportion that you can use is:  radians/π  =  degrees/180  

--->   radians/π  =  120/180

--->   radians/π  =  2/3

The formula for standard deviation is:

To do this by hand:

1) find the average of all the x-values

2) for each x-value, find the difference between the x-value and the average value, and then square that answer

3) sum all the values from step 2

4) divide the answer of step 3 by n-1, the number of values minus 1

This is known as a "see-saw" problem.....that is, the product of one side of the equation must equal the product of the other side

So, two people dig a hole in 5 hrs. = 300 minutes

So

2 x 300  = N * 5    where N is the number of people we're looking for

600 = N * 5      divide by 5

120 = N   

So it takes 120 people to dig the same hole in 5 minutes

To see the logic of this, we need to dig the hole 60 times as fast......therefore....we need 60 times as many people....  and 60 x 2 = 120.....!!!
