sine can't be higher than 1 unless it's in degrees or radians... unless you're talking about a sine graph, where the sine can be modified by the amplitude.

Solve for x:
3 log(x+4)-5 = 3

Add 5 to both sides:
3 log(x+4) = 8

Divide both sides by 3:
log(x+4) = 8/3

Cancel logarithms by taking exp of both sides:
x+4 = e^(8/3)

Subtract 4 from both sides:
Answer: | x = e^(8/3)-4

It's yet another example of the ambiguous equations that keep turning up.

Is it supposed to be (e +4)/(e-2) = 1/3, (which I suspect is the case),  or is it 'as written',

e + (4/e) - 2 = 1/3 ?

If it's the first then simply cross multiply and solve the resulting linear equation, if it's the second, multiply throughout by e and solve the quadratic.
