I really don't understand your problem.  Just use the - sign.  

eg   4^-3=

$${{\mathtt{4}}}^{-{\mathtt{3}}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{1}}}{{\mathtt{64}}}} = {\mathtt{0.015\: \!625}}$$

when you are adding and subtracting 'letters' it is easier if you think of them as things, so

5f-f becomes 5 frogs-a frog = 5frogs -1 frog = 4 frogs = 4f

You know opening up a post and finding a whole stack of questions is quite intimidating.

Plus it makes me feel like you are asking me to do all your homework for you.

Would you like to choose  a question that you seriously cannot do yourself and i will start there?

Mr frankel bought 7tickets to puppet show and spent $43. he bought a combination of child tickets and adult tickets for $9.what system of equation determine the number of adult tickets, a, and the number of child tickets,c, he bought?

I suspect that the question was supposed to include the cost of the child's ticket but I will play with it anyway. 

Let the cost of the child ticket be R (R for reduced price)

9a+Rc=43

a+c=7

We know that a and c have to be whole numbers. And that all the pronumerals have positive values.

R must be exact to 2 decimal places (cents)

multiples of 9 are 9,18,27,36  ..  So there must be 1,2,3,or 4 adults

If there was 1 adult then there are 6 children and their tickets cost 43-9=$34    34/6=5.66666 no not exact!

If there was 2 adult then there are 5 children and their tickets cost 43-18=$25    25/5=$5 Sounds good

If there was 3 adult then there are 4 children and their tickets cost 43-27=$16    16/4=$4 sounds good

If there was 4 adult then there are 3 children and their tickets cost 43-36=$7    7/3=$2.333 no not exact!

So he may have bought

2adult tickets for $9each and 5 child tickets for $5 each  OR

3adult tickets for $9each and 4 child tickets for $4 each

That was a  great answer problem.  And thanks for the reference Chris.

The easiest way to do this is think

if x=0 then 4y=24 so y=6 (0,6)

if y=0 then 6x=24 so x=4 (4,0)

plot the two points 

then rule in the the line.  Write the equation on the line and put arrows on the ends.

The answer would vary a bit because of calculation error.  Whenever you do any 'experiment'  there is always going to be a little bit of variation in the output.  However, if you do it properly, there will be NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE.

The name of this symbol ^ is caret  (not to be confused with a carrot)

When it is used in maths like this it can also be called a 'hat' and it means "to the power of"

for example 

4^3 = 4*4*4=64

As to your equations, they are both lines but i don't know what you want me to do with them.

I'm not sure what you mean.  Have you been given any points?  All you need is a slope and one point.  Any point will do.  get back to me please.
