SO its moment of inertia ( 2/3 mr^2 [for a thin walled sphere]) would have been used to determine the acceleration...which was already computed (if you will) and given to you in the question as 0.3 m/s^2....so ...yah, I guess it is not needed unless you used it to calculate the acceleration you gave in your question.
