Solution: 3x+y=-4 = 3*1+-7

                            = 3+-7

                            = -4

Solution (Same as above but in words): First, you write out the math problem. Then, you subsitute x and y. BUT you HAVE to subsitute x first. So, if x=1, multiply 3 by 1. After that, because you have 3 and y, so to make -4, turn y into -7. Finally, you add positive 3 and negative 7 which makes -4. That is your answer.

To Solve this equation we will need to isolate either one of the variables.

For the fun of it, lets isolate the X variable.

Lets write the equation below:

$$3x+y=-4$$

Now lets us isolate the X 

Essentially, this is the answer, however you may with substitute it into the equation.

$$y=-4-3x$$

Now let us substitute:

$$3x+(-4)-3x=-4$$

DS and rosala......saying that the equation can't be "solved" isn't exactly correct......it just has infinite solutions......!!!!!  (not just one solution)......there are many "x's" and "y's" which make the equation "true"......

18,000,000,000 = log (x/5) .........This says that......

f(x)=x^3-2x^2-5x+6

Note, that if we can add the coefficients of a polynomial and we get "0," then 1 is a root (or, zero)..therefore....

1 - 2 - 5 + 6 

-1 + 1   = 0      So 1 is a root

So, using a little synthetic division, we have

1    1  -2  -5   6

           1  -1  -6

       1 -1  -6   0

So, the polynomial that remains is     x² -x -6   which can be factored as....

(x-3) (x + 2)

And the factorization is  (x-1) (x-3) (x +2) and the rational zeroes obtained by setting each factor to 0 are 1, 3 and -2

And that's it.....
