there is a couple of was but he way that will work in all normal calculators is

$$\sqrt[4]{14}= 14^{1/4}$$

14^(1/4)

$${\frac{{\mathtt{0.11}}}{{\mathtt{4}}}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{11}}}{{\mathtt{400}}}} = {\mathtt{0.027\: \!5}}$$

$$\\a=8435(1+.11/4)^{20}\\
a=8435*(1.0275)^{20}\\$$

so that is going to be 1.0275*1.0275*..........1.0275*8435

there will be 20 lots of 1.0275

It will take a while but you can do it by hand if you want to.   LOL      

$$x^2-3x-10<0$$

The easiest way to do these is to think of a the parabola   

$$y=x^2-3x-10\\$$

The above inequality will be true when y is negative.  i.e. the parabola is under the x axis.

This is a concave up parabola because the coefficient of x^2 is positive

So we will need to solve 

$$\\x^2-3x-10=0\\
(x-5)(x+2)=0\\
x=5,\;\;x=-2\\$$

since the paraola is concave up, the bit under the x axis is between these two roots.

so

$$\\x^2-3x-10<0\\
When\;\;-2

actually sine is the length of the opposite side  over the length of the hypotenuse  (in any right angle triangle)

sin is short for sine.  It is part of a big subject area called trigonometry.  :)
